Elevator Pitch

mc_buttonsIf someone were to ask you what you believe and why do you believe it, what would you say? Could you state it in the time it would take you to ride an elevator from the ground floor to your office? Would you sound compelling and confident, or would you resonate as someone who’s regurgitating some cliché sounding statements that you recall from when you were younger?

I think it’s important to not sound lame, especially in this day and age. You’ve got some very dogmatic types out there are extremely antagonistic towards anything faith-based, especially something that has the name of Jesus Christ attached to it. You say, “I believe in Jesus Christ” and they sneer and scoff because that’s the way they’re wired. But if you can have something that sounds like you’ve thought things through and you’re doing more than just reciting something that sounds mechanical, chances are you’ll make a much better impression. Here’s mine:

I’ve had more than ample opportunity to wonder if I’m playing for the right team. At the end of the day, the bottom line is this: It works! Without an Absolute standard, the goalposts never stop moving. Without a Creator, the universe is never sufficiently explained, and without a Savior, life is nothing more than a temporary tapestry of highs and lows. Christ wasn’t just a great thinker or a noble sentiment. He business card reads different than any other religious figure in that He didn’t offer commentary about God, He claimed to be God. And He then went on to prove it by dying and coming back to life. While that flies in the face of all that’s normal and possible, if He was limited to what could be explained from a human vantage point, He wouldn’t be God.

I wasn’t there to shake His hand when He emerged from the empty tomb. The evidence that validates His Identity from a historical, scientific and philosophical standpoint is compelling, but what ultimately tips the scales in His favor is the way I’ve been able to test and experience firsthand what He brings to the table in terms of perspective, significance and confidence. He’s God, it works and I’m sure.

That what I believe and that’s why I believe it.elevator buttons.jpg.838x0_q67_crop-smart
